Unhas MWA Approves 2025–2030 Strategic Plan Draft with Several Strategic Notes

Makassar, June 23, 2025 — The Board of Trustees (MWA) of Hasanuddin University approved the draft Strategic Plan (Renstra) of Hasanuddin University 2025–2030 in a plenary meeting held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Meeting Room A on the 4th floor of the Unhas Rectorate Building. The meeting was chaired by the Chair of the MWA, Prof. Dr. Andi Alimuddin Unde, M.Si., and attended by most of the MWA members and the Renstra Drafting Team.
The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss and approve the proposed 2025–2030 Unhas Strategic Plan Draft. The Chair of the Drafting Team, Dr. M. Rijal Idrus, explained that this document had gone through various stages of discussion and received input from the Academic Senate and the MWA. Dr. M. Rijal further said that this strategic plan was designed based on the Unhas 2030 Long-Term Development Plan, the 2020–2025 Strategic Plan, the Unhas Statute, and national policy directions. Five main pillars were developed with the aim of pushing Unhas into the top 500 World Class Universities (WCU). The team also added a funding framework as part of the innovation in the preparation of this strategic document.
During the meeting, a number of strategic issues were raised and became the main focus of MWA members. One of the main concerns was the low productivity of faculty publications in several faculties, which was deemed to require affirmative strategies to encourage performance improvement in units with low achievements. In addition, the importance of developing narratives and mechanisms for endowment funds was also discussed as part of efforts to ensure the continuity of university funding in the future. The lack of contribution from business units to institutional revenue was also a concern, requiring a strengthening of policy direction and annual evaluation of the performance of these business units. Another criticism was directed at the setting of achievement targets that were considered too constant or conservative, given that the increase in revenue and resources was not fully reflected in the strategic performance projections. Responding to Unhas’ ambition to break into the top 500 WCU rankings, the meeting also proposed strengthening global reputation strategies, including increasing publications, strengthening academic reputation, and managing the presence of foreign lecturers in a more structured and achievement-oriented manner.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of the linkage between the Unhas Strategic Plan and the 2030 Master Development Plan (RIP), the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJPN), and national policies such as the President’s Eight Goals and Indonesia Emas 2045. Closing the meeting, the MWA Chair emphasized that, in principle, the MWA approved the draft 2025–2030 Strategic Plan with several important notes that need to be followed up and refined in the near future. The final document will be revised and finalized after considering all strategic inputs from the meeting.
