Unhas's Board of Trustees Discusses New Regulation for the Election of Honorary Member

Hasanuddin University’s Board of Trustees (MWA) held an important meeting at the Rectorate Building. The main agenda was the discussion of regulations on the election of honorary members of MWA, designed to strengthen strategic collaboration and support the development of the institution.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of MWA, Prof. Dr. Andi Alimuddin Unde, M.Si, with the presence of a number of leaders and members of MWA, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., and Prof. Dr. drg. Bahruddin Thalib, M.Kes. The meeting started at 2:30 pm and discussed various points, such as the criteria for honorary members, term of office, and election procedures.
During the discussion, the Head of the Regulation Drafting Team, Prof. Andi Niartiningsih, MP, presented a comparative study with similar rules at other universities. “We try to study regulations from other PTNBH. For example, Padang State University has a membership model without a time period, while at Gadjah Mada University it is on/off,” she explained.
Most meeting participants supported that this regulation should not only accommodate immediate needs, but also provide a flexible and inclusive framework. “These honorary members should be figures who have high concern for the development of higher education, regardless of their formal academic background,” said Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa.
The meeting resulted in an agreement to accelerate the finalization of the draft regulation, which is scheduled to be further discussed in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on 22 January 2025.
This step is expected to have a positive impact on Hasanuddin University, both in terms of academic collaboration, institutional development, and strengthening national and international networks.
