Hasanuddin University MWA Approves Additional Endowment Fund Investment: Strengthening Commitment to Provide Scholarship Benefits for Students

Makassar, January 26, 2026 — The Board of Trustees (MWA) of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) approved the placement and additional investment of Rp11 billion from the Unhas Endowment Fund in an official meeting held on Monday (1/26) in the MWA Meeting Room, 4th Floor of the Hasanuddin University Rectorate Building.
The meeting, chaired by the Chair of the Unhas Board of Trustees, discussed the development, performance, and strategic direction of the Unhas Endowment Fund going forward. The additional funds approved came from cuts in university fees for collaborations, contributions from Unhas business units, and other internal sources.
In its presentation, the Unhas Endowment Fund manager reported that as of January 20, 2026, the total Unhas Endowment Fund had reached approximately Rp31 billion, with a positive and encouraging growth trend. To date, the proceeds from the Unhas Endowment Fund have been used primarily to support scholarship programs for students.
The Unhas MWA emphasized the importance of developing the Endowment Fund in a more creative, sustainable, and accountable manner. In addition to relatively safe investment instruments such as sukuk, deposits, and current accounts, the MWA encouraged that in the future, the Endowment Fund should not only rely on securities but also begin to consider investing in productive business activities, while still adhering to the principles of prudence and risk management.
A number of strategic inputs also emerged during the meeting, including strengthening the investment portfolio, increasing transparency and reporting to the MWA, optimizing the contribution of university business units, and developing an Endowment Fund based on sharia principles. The MWA also assessed the importance of broader communication with the academic community, alumni, and stakeholders to strengthen support for the Unhas Endowment Fund.
With this additional investment approval, the MWA of Hasanuddin University hopes that the Unhas Endowment Fund can continue to grow and provide broader benefits, not only for scholarship recipients but also for the long-term sustainability of Hasanuddin University’s institutional development.
