MWA Unhas Approves Placement of Endowment Funds in Deposits, Discusses Strategies for Optimizing Utilization







Makassar, June 24, 2025 — The Board of Trustees (MWA) of Hasanuddin University has approved the proposal to place the Endowment Fund (DA) in the form of bank deposits. This approval was conveyed during the MWA meeting held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, in the MWA Meeting Room, 4th Floor of the Unhas Rectorate Building, with the main agenda being the discussion of investment strategies and the utilization of the university’s Endowment Fund.
The meeting, chaired by MWA Chair Prof. Dr. Andi Alimuddin Unde, M.Si., was attended by the majority of MWA members and Vice Rector II as the person in charge of managing the Endowment Fund. In his presentation, Vice Rector II Prof. Subehan explained that, to date, the use of the Endowment Fund’s profits is still directed towards scholarships, especially for students from the lowest UKT (Tuition Fee Category) groups.
During this meeting, the discussion turned to strategies for diversifying and developing the Endowment Fund so that it could provide broader benefits. The MWA encouraged that investment returns not be focused solely on scholarships, but also directed toward more productive sectors such as investments in sukuk or business units. The idea of utilizing alumni funds and collaborating with the private sector also emerged as an alternative for strengthening the Endowment Fund.
On this occasion, several interesting strategies were also presented, ranging from optimizing alumni contributions to exploring partnership opportunities with local governments through the APBD scheme for student scholarship support.
In clossing,MWA reiterated that the management of the endowment fund must always be carried out in accordance with the agreed-upon rules and regulations.MWA also emphasized the importance of periodic evaluation and flexibility in management fund can truly become a sustainable instrument for the advancement of unhas.
