MWA Unhas Approves the Opening of a Medical Physicist Professional Study Program

Makassar, January 9, 2026 — The Board of Trustees (MWA) of Hasanuddin University has approved the opening of a Medical Physicist Professional Study Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Hasanuddin University. The approval was given at the MWA Meeting held on Friday (9/1) at the Hasanuddin University Rectorate Building.
The Chair of the Unhas MWA, Prof. Andi Alimuddin Unde, stated that the opening of this study program is part of Unhas’ academic development strategy to address the national need for medical physicist professionals, which remains severely limited, particularly in Eastern Indonesia.
Furthermore, Prof. Unde emphasized, “The program must support national development while ensuring institutional sustainability through strengthened education, research, and collaboration,” as stated during the meeting.
The Medical Physicist Professional Study Program is expected to play a strategic role in supporting the development of health services, particularly in the operation and development of medical device technology, in line with government policy in promoting the independence of the national medical device industry. In addition, the presence of this study program is also projected to become a flagship program that is attractive to prospective students and contributes to increasing institutional revenue.
The Unhas MWA approved the opening of this study program with a number of notes for improvement. All of these notes will be immediately followed up by the proposing team to improve the documents before further administrative processes, including submission to the Higher Education Database (PDDikti).
With this approval, Hasanuddin University reaffirms its commitment to providing relevant, competitive professional education programs that contribute significantly to the development of health and human resources in Indonesia.
