Makassar, June 10, 2025 — MWA Unhas held another Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Tuesday (10/6) as part of the process of finalizing MWA regulations on the mechanism for selecting the next Rector. The FGD, held at the Unhas Hotel and Convention Center, was attended by several key campus figures who are also members of the MWA Regulation Drafting Committee on the Procedures for the 2026-2030 Rector Election, including Prof. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, Prof. Nasaruddin Salam, Unhas Secretary, Prof. Sumbangan Baja, Academic Senate (SA) Chair, Prof. Bahruddin Thalib, Secretary of the SA, Prof. Budimawan, Chair of the Board of Professors (DGB), Prof. Andi Pangerang Moentha, as well as the leadership and members of the Unhas MWA.

One of the key points discussed was the removal of one of the administrative requirements in the selection of rector candidates. This removal aims to open up broader opportunities for rector candidates from outside Unhas, including those without a teaching background or who are not civil servants (PNS).

However, this openness is accompanied by caution. The FGD agreed that the requirements for rector candidates must still follow the rules set forth in the Unhas Statute. Article 26 of the Unhas Statute regarding the requirements for becoming a rector stipulates that those eligible to register as rector candidates must be civil servant lecturers with a doctoral degree (S3), hold at least the rank of senior lecturer at the time of applying, and be no older than 60 years of age at the end of the current rector’s term.

The discussion also touched on the need to review the Unhas Statute, particularly the provisions that overly restrict rector candidates to only faculty members and civil servants. By adopting a more inclusive approach, Unhas is expected to attract a more diverse and innovative pool of leadership candidates.

This FGD is part of Unhas’ commitment to continuously improve its democratic, open, and accountable campus leadership system. The results of the FGD will serve as important input in formulating technical guidelines for the selection and election of the next Unhas rector.
