Selayar, November 28, 2025 — The Selayar Islands Regency Government officially handed over the Regional Property Grant Decree to Unhas for the implementation of Unhas Vocational Education in Selayar Islands Regency. This step is an effort to accelerate the establishment of a vocational campus in the area. The handover ceremony was held during the Regional Leadership Meeting (Rapim) of Selayar Islands Regency, which took place at the Regent’s Office and was chaired directly by the Regent of Selayar Islands.

In his speech, the Regent emphasized that the initiative to establish a Unhas vocational campus in Selayar was born out of concern for the low Human Development Index (HDI) score in his region. He hopes that the existence of this vocational campus will serve as a forum for improving the quality of local human resources, especially for the younger generation in Selayar.

“We hope that Unhas Vocational School in Selayar will become a home for local children. Starting next year, they will be able to pursue vocational education without having to leave the region,” said the Regent.

As is widely known, Unhas and the Selayar Regional Government signed a cooperation agreement in July 2021 regarding the implementation of vocational education. One of the important clauses in this cooperation is the obligation of the Regional Government to provide facilities and infrastructure. Since 2022, the construction of vocational facilities has begun and will continue in 2023.

This synergy, according to the Regent, is proof of a shared commitment to developing excellent human resources and strengthening regional development. The regional government is also promoting affirmative action for the sons and daughters of Selayar.

The Chair of the Unhas MWA, Prof. Andi Alimuddin Unde, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation that has been ongoing for almost three years. Currently, Unhas has developed vocational programs in several districts such as Sidrap, Barru, and Soppeng.

On this occasion, the Chair of the Unhas MWA emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation not only in the field of education, but also in research and community service. The Unhas Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) is said to be ready to collaborate with the Selayar Regional Government on regional development programs. Unhas and the Selayar Regional Government agree that vocational development and other collaborative programs need to be prepared well in advance so that they are in line with regional development plans and Unhas research schemes.

“whe share the same goal: to educate the nation. Therefore, this cooperation must continue to be strengt hened and expanded,” concluded the Chairman of the Unhas MWA, who is fondly known as Prof. Andi Unde.

The working visit continued with a tour of two Unhas Vocational Campuses in Selayar Islands Regency, which are the learning centers for students of the Tourism Destination and Marine and Coastal Cultivation Study Program. Among the leaders and members of the Unhas MWA who were present were Prof. Andi Alimuddin Unde, Prof. Muh. Arsyad Thaha, Prof. Andi Niartiningsih, Prof. Asmuddin Natsir, Prof. Kartini, Prof. Andi Zulkifli, and Prof. Dwia Tina Aries Pulubuhu.
