MWA Unhas Appoints Jamaluddin Jompa as Rector of Hasanuddin University for the 2026–2030 Term









Jakarta, January 14, 2026 — The Board of Trustees (MWA) of Hasanuddin University officially appointed Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc. as Rector of Hasanuddin University for the 2026–2030 term. The appointment was made during an Extraordinary Open Plenary Meeting of the MWA Unhas held at the Hasanuddin University Campus in Jakarta on Wednesday (14/1).
This plenary meeting was the culmination of a series of rector selection processes that were carried out transparently, accountably, and with integrity, in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations and good university governance. The selection process included stages such as the presentation of the rector candidates’ working papers, an in-depth discussion of their vision and work programs, the signing of an integrity pact, and the voting and vote counting by MWA members with voting rights.
During the meeting, three rector candidates presented their vision, mission, and strategic development programs for Hasanuddin University for the next five years. After a closed meeting and voting process, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc. was elected with 23 votes out of 24 valid votes.
The Chair of the MWA of Hasanuddin University stated that the election results reflect the MWA’s commitment to ensuring the continuity of university leadership that is oriented towards strengthening the three pillars of higher education, professional governance, and enhancing the competitiveness of Hasanuddin University at the national and global levels.
In his inaugural speech, the newly elected rector expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing and strengthening the transformation of Hasanuddin University into a world-class university that has an impact on society, the nation, and eastern Indonesia.
This Extraordinary Open Plenary Meeting was also attended by members of the MWA, including representatives of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, representatives of the Governor of South Sulawesi, university leaders, the academic senate, alumni associations, and community representatives. The entire series of activities proceeded in an orderly and smooth manner until the closing of the meeting by the Chair of the MWA Unhas.
With the appointment of the Rector of Hasanuddin University for the 2026–2030 period, it is hoped that the entire academic community will provide full support for the realization of inclusive, integrity-based, and institution-oriented university leadership.
