Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc. is the Rector of Hasanuddin University who is also an Ex-Officio member of the Board of Trustees of Hasanuddin University for the period of 2023-2027. He was born March 8 1967 and currently is a lecturer and professor of marine biology and ecology at the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences (FIKP) Unhas. Previously served as Dean of the Postgraduate School at Hasanuddin University for the 2018–2022 period. Obtained a PhD from James Cook University, Australia, in 2003, then served as Director of the Center for Coral Reef Studies, Hasanuddin University in 2004, Executive Secretary of COREMAP II (2007-2011), and Director of the Research and Development Center for Marine, Coastal and Small Islands (2011-2013). Appointed as Advisor to the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries for Marine Ecology in 2020.
